Tommy's 55th Birthday!

In honor of Tommy's 55th Birthday, the kids and I decided to write down 55 reasons that we love and respect Tommy!

I know that this will be more of a gift to Tommy than any material thing that we could possibly buy for him!

As Nathan said, "I am sure we will have some duplicates, but that just shows how strong those characteristics are". So you will forgive us, if some things are similar or maybe even exactly the same!!

I get to go first because I am the wife! After me, we will go in order of birth, followed by their wives and kids and since Chase is the youngest child, she will finish it up!! :) We love you Tommy and we hope these 55 reasons show you just how much!!

- From Heidi
  • I love and respect you for so many reasons, I think one of the things I love most is your humble spirit.

  • I love the way you love the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul!

  • I love the way you love me! We have been married alittle more than 16 years, but we have known each other for twice as many and I am so thankful you asked me to be your wife! More than anything else in this world...I love being your wife!

  • I love the way you love your family, your children, your grandchildren. They are your legacy and what a wonderful example you are to them! You sacrificed so much to follow God's leading in your life, not many men would have given up a good career, good pay, a beautiful home, and all the worldly luxuries, but you gave them all to God and said "wherever you lead I will go" I love that you are a man after God's Own Heart!

  • I love the way you make me laugh, and I love the way you are always the first one to cry, whether we are watching a sappy movie or a commercial! I love how you let me win at Wii when you know it's making me mad that you are winning! :) Oh, and the way you make up songs to everything, I mean everything I say!! I love that you are MY husband! Thank you for being my husband! I love you with all my heart!

- From Brian

  • I love that you can fix anything without using all the parts.

  • I love that you taught me the importance of providing for my family.

  • I love that you always took care of me, Nathan, and Matthew when Mom was sick.

  • I love that you taught me that it's alright to cry (i.e. Chase + Row Row Row Your Boat= Puddle o'Brian)

  • I love that you are a Christian and taught me about Jesus.

  • I love your sarcasm and sense of humor.

  • I love the way you make heavenly noodles and sloppy joes.

  • I love how you taught me that it is important to stand for your convictions.

  • I love how you didn't spare the rod...Lord knows I needed it!

-From Gerie

  • I love the way you welcomed me into the family.

  • I love that you come to all of Billy's school plays.

  • I love the way you didn't charge me for that brake pad replacement.

-From Billy

  • I love when granddaddy uses his deep, deep voice!

  • I love that granddaddy can still pick me up!

-From Nathan

  • I love that you taught me the most important thing in life is accepting Christ as your Savior and having a personal relationship with Him.

  • I love that you taught me that moral character and a love for Christ and others is much more important than the material things of the world.

  • I love that you took good care of me as a child even when my mom was sick and hospitalized. You were able to manage working full time, keeping the house maintained, and making plans for us to get to and from school during some tough times.

  • I love that you taught me how important it is to be part of a local church and attend faithfully. Being around other Christians and hearing the Word helps you stay strong in your faith.

  • I love that you taught me how to be responsible, honest, and work hard.

-From Hester

  • I love that you are a good handy man and are always willing to help us fix things when we need you.

  • I love that you have taught and are still teaching your children to be faithful, respectful, and loving to their spouses.

  • I love that you are a good granddaddy! The kids enjoy and are always excited when they get the chance to spend time with you.

  • I love that you are the best bird catcher in the world. You even scare the poop out of them when you catch them.

  • I love that you have demonstrated what it means to have a strong faith and be willing to step out in faith to do God's will in ministry.

-From Jacob

  • I love that Granddaddy has lots of cool tools to fix things with.

  • I love that you always get a big Christmas tree with lots of colored lights.

  • I love that you tell funny jokes.

-From Kinley

  • I love that Granddaddy has a big toy kitchen at his house to play with.

  • I love that you give me good sweet tea to drink.

-From Elyn

  • I love that Granddaddy always holds me and talks to me, and I love how you always get on the floor and play with me!

-From Matthew

  • I love and I am so grateful that through your example I learned that accepting Christ as my savior is the most important thing in my life.

  • I love that you are always there for me. When I need help fixing my car, or fixing anything you always have an answer. More importantly when I need spiritual guidance you always point me in the right direction where I can get help through scripture.

  • I love your humility. Most humble man I know. I learned that being humble does not mean being weak. Through your humility I know that nice guys don't always finish last.

  • I love that you taught me to love others as Christ loves us. From birth to now, you still visit nursing homes, people in need, and those less fortunate. you taught me to love people for just being people.

  • I love who you are. your awesome sense of humor! I get the best jokes from you. I love your funny quarks. ie- "the hand to hip bump when you stand up." I am proud to be me when I say or do something like you and Sarah chimes in, "ok Tommy Worthey." Thanks for being an example I am proud to follow.

-From Sarah

  • I love how honest you are. What you see is what you get!

  • I love that you can laugh at your own silly, I mean, funny jokes and that you have thankfully passed that trait onto your son. :) "You laughing at your jokes is what makes them so funny".

  • I love that you have amazing faith and love for God and have a strong desire to share that with others no matter what that cost you.

  • I love that you are a great example on how to love your wife and raised three sons who love their wife's with all their hearts and treat them with respect and desire their happiness.

  • I love you granddaddy because you never let me down, you are always there for me and I like that you love me so much!

-From Kaleb

  • I love you granddaddy

  • I love that you play cars with me, even when you play with the ones I don't like you too...Sometimes you get in "big trouble" with me!

-From Chase

  • I love you dad because you are crazy, funny, and you make jokes that no one understands but you! (:

  • I love you dad because you are the BEST dad a girl could EVER ask for!

  • I love you dad because you always encourage me and I know that you will always be there for me. (:

  • I love you dad because you are always very understanding!

WE ALL LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!

Day 14 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 14 -Kindness. "Lord, may my children always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else".

See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. I Thessalonians 5:15 (NASB)

Lord, I am so thankful that I have children that are kind, they all show this characteristic of kindness and I am so thankful for that. I pray that you will continue to nurture this in each one of them. I pray that my children and grandchildren will always share a spirit of kindness with all they come in contact with, I pray that their kindness will inspire others! I pray that thru their acts of kindness people will see Your love thru them! Lord, so many children/ people have been deeply wounded because they have been the brunt of criticism, teasing, and taunting. May my children exhibit kindness in their speech. Let the words of their mouths and the meditation of their hearts be pleasing in your sight.

Sorry for the delay in pictures of Destiny! She is a precious little girl, and we are all thrilled to have her as part of our family!

Meet Destiny

Destiny is ready to play, but she did pose for a few pictures for me! I got a few "cheeses"

Day 13 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 13-Purity. "Create in them a pure heart, O God, and let that purity of heart be shown in their actions" (Ps. 51:10).

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 (NASB)

Heavenly Father, I desire to live a life of purity and I want to be aligned with Your Word. I pray that my children and grandchildren will desire to live a life of purity before You as well, and despite what the world sees as being acceptable, help them see Your ways! I pray that they will hide Your Word in their hearts, so that they will know what is right and wrong and always choose to do what is right! Help them keep their minds on things above and not on things of this earth. I pray not only will their minds be kept pure, but that their actions and motives will be kept pure as well!

Day 12 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 12-Courage. "May my children always be strong and courageous in their character and in their actions" (Dt. 31:6).

"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you He will not fail you or forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6 (NASB)

Gracious Father, Please forgive me for times that I have been a coward and have not taken a bold stand for You. Please help me to always be courageous and boldly proclaim my faith in You. Help me to have the courage to witness to lost people even though they may ridcule me for my beliefs, help me to not be ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation! I pray this same prayer for my children and grandchildren. Help them to be strong in the Lord and find their strength in Him!

Day 11 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 11-FAITHFULNESS. "Let love and faithfulness never leave my children, but bind these twin virtues around their necks and write them on the tablet of their hearts".

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:3 (ESV

When I read about Daniel facing the lions, I seek God for that kind of courageous faith for my sons! Queen Esther's confidence in God's faithfulness becomes a prayer request for my daughter!

Dear Lord, I thank You for your faithfulness, I thank You that You are always faithful to keep Your promises. You are always there whenever I need to call upon You, I am thankful that I can always depend on You! I pray that you will help me to be faithful to You that I will be an example of faithfulness to my children and grandchildren! I pray that they will always be faithful to serving You throughout their lives!

Day 10 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 10-BIBLICAL SELF-ESTEEM. "Help my children develop a strong self-esteem that is rooted in the realization that they are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus".

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (NASB)

Father, I come to Your throne room on behalf of my children and grandchilddren in order to receive help for their self-image. You created each of them in Your image and likeness, and that means so much to me. I know that You will always love them. I know You didn't just carelessly or thoughtlessly throw them together. You made them so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous! Because they are Your workmanship, Your handicraft, made for good works, I ask You to help my children to view themselves from Your perspective. Help them to realize their strengths. Open their eyes to the strengths, abilities, and talents that You have placed inside of each of them. Give my children grace to find the good that is in them. Help them to be appreciative of who they are, instead of critical of who they are not. Although the world places importance on physical appearance, Father, I know that You judge men's hearts. You are interested in a pure heart and a humble spirit. Help my children and grandchildren know that they are very valuable to You. Knowing that they are chosen may that make them feel special. Thank You for choosing each of them before the foundation of the world. I acknowledge You, God, as my Father, and thank You that I am Your child. Help me to set my affections on things above rather than on things of the world and help me to be an example of this before my children and grandchildren. Help my children to mature in their relationship with You and to develop into the happy, joyful, strong Christians that they all have the potential to be.

It's a Girl!

Tommy and I just received a call from DFACS, they have a 3 year old little blonde haired girl named Destiny, that they wanted to place with us! My first reaction was "oh no...I have the Minister's Wives Retreat to go to this weekend", so I talked to Tommy and he said he thought he could handle it (with Chase's help of course)...Tommy has always been a very hands on dad, so I have no fear he can handle it! So....Destiny is on her way to become a part of our family, we don't know for how long, we are willing for her to be here for a week, or for a year, whatever the Lord provides for, we are just thrilled to have this opportunity to be part of this little girl's life. Please pray for her, the case worker called me back and said that she was scared, so I spoke to her on the phone and assured her that we were excited for her to come and stay with us! I will post some pictures as soon as possible! Thank you all for your prayers for Destiny, and for us!

Day 9 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 9 RESPECT- (for Self, Others, Authority) "Father, grant that my children may show proper respect to everyone, as your Word commands".

Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. I Peter 2:17 (NASB)

Sovereign Lord, because we revere You, may we cherish and show respect for all You have made. As I pray for my children, and grandchildren today, I ask that You please infuse their hearts with a deep reverence for You and all that You have made. Place in them a longing to read Your Word and a desire to obey Your commands. Please inspire each of them to be respectful and considerate of others and give them a willingness to put others first. I pray that they would serve those in authority with their whole heart out of respect for the Lord and to honor those individuals by obeying their instructions. Lord, You formed each of us in the womb. You are the Lord who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens and who alone spread out the earth. Our desire is to revere You and treat all You have made with deep respect. Please send Your Holy Spirit to enable our family to be respectful and considerate of everyone. In all we say and do, we want to honor You, for You are great and most worthy of praise.

Minister's Wives Retreat 2011

I am so excited about the opportunity to go to the GA Baptist Conventions Minister's Wives Retreat this year at the Toccoa Conference Center! I almost went last year, but I didn't want to go by myself, so I just decided to pass on it, but this year, my friend Heather, and fellow Pastor's wife asked if I would like to go and room with her. I was so excited! and as the weekend draws nearer I get more excited! I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend surrounded by woman who are experiencing the same things I am experiencing and I am hoping to gain some wisdom from them, as well as from the speakers, not to mention the wonderful time to worship with like minded woman!!

2 nights/3 days/6 meals, spa day with chair massages and other special treatments, haircuts, workshops, dessert fellowship, door prizes, and most importantly, encouragement from God’s Word. As you can see it's going to be a great weekend!
Pray for Tommy and Chase while I'm away...because of the snow/ice, Chase's Band Formal was rescheduled for the Friday that I will be at the retreat, so Tommy will be not only transporting her and who knows how many of her friends, but he will be the only one here to help her with her hair, makeup, and dress!

Day 8 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 8 - M E R C Y "May my children always ‘be merciful, as their Father in Heaven is merciful’”.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36 (NASB)

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NASB)
Lord Jesus, You are loving and Your mercy endures forever. I come to you this morning interceding on behalf of my children and grandchildren, I am asking You to help them to always be merciful, I pray that they would never avoid asking for Your mercy, but that they will approach Your throne with confidence, knowing that they may receive Your mercy and find grace to help them in time of need! Lord, I pray that my children will see that mercy is a form of kindness and love and that they might demonstrate that towards those who are in need and perhaps suffering. I thank You Lord for the mercy You have shown toward each of us, and Your desire to show mercy to everyone who will receive it!

Day 7 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 7 - JUSTICE "God, help my children to love justice as You do and to 'act justly' in all they do"

For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face. Psalm 11:7 (NASB)

He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 (NASB)

Lord, I am so glad that you know each of our children and grandchildren by name. Thank you for sending a whole hedge of angels around each child. Thank you for protecting them all today. I pray that you will help my children to act justly in all they do; to love kindness and to walk humbly with You, dear Lord! Thank You Lord for my children, and grandchildren; guide them that their lives might be pleasing in Your sight!

Day 6 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 6 -A LOVE FOR GOD'S WORD ” May my children grow to find your Word ‘more precious than gold, and sweeter than honey from the honeycomb’”

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Psalm 19:9-10 (NASB)

Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for Your Holy Word. Your Word is eternal, Your Word is alive, and Your Word is more precious than gold. I pray for my children and grandchildren to grow up hungering, and thirsting for Your Word. I pray that it will be a lamp unto their feet and a light unto their path to guide them thru their life. Please help them to learn to hid it in their heart, so that they will not sin against You. I pray that their love for Your Word will cause them to read it daily, that they might develop a closer relationship with You!

Day 5 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

DAY 5 "Self-Control" Father, help my children not to be like many others around them, but let them be 'alert and self-controlled' in all they do"

So we should not be like other people who are sleeping, but we should be alert and have self-control.
I Thessalonians 5:6 (NCV)

(In this picture of Kaleb you can see he is using self control. He is thinking something, but trying desperately not to say anything!!)

Lord, You are so kind and gracious, and full of love and mercy. Thank You for loving me and being so patient with me! Today, I pray for my children and grandchildren that they might learn this characteristic of self control. Please help them to be slow to anger and quick to forgive. Help them to be kind to others and to show the love of Jesus through their words and actions.

Day 4 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

Day 4 JOY- "I pray that You will cause my children to REJOICE because of the work of your hands"

For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. Psalm 92:4 (NASB)

(I chose this picture of Elyn because every time I look at it, it brings me Joy!)

Kind Heavenly Father, Thank you for the Joy that You have given to me thru my children and grandchildren. I pray that You will bless each of them with the abundant life that is found through Your Son, Jesus Christ. I pray that their days will be filled with joy and wonderful memories. I have always heard that the word JOY was an acronym for Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last. I pray that each of them will always put Jesus first in their life, and think of others before themselves in order that they may experience complete joy!

Foster Parent Meeting! Quick Update!

Today, we went to a Foster Parent meeting, we went over some need to know things for everyday stuff, and we also had our pictures made to get ID's identifying us as Foster Parents or Resource Parents as they are now called! :)

For those of you wondering about Jamal...we only had Jamal 11 days, but we are glad that he has moved on where they are better equipped to meet his specific needs...We knew when we took Jamal in, that his placement with us would only be for a short time! Today, we discussed with one of the case workers about another placement in the near future (like just a few weeks). Apparently, a foster home is in the process of closing, so they are trying to find placements for the kids ahead of time...Danielle is 16 years old and 7 months pregnant, we would of course be helping Danielle, as well as the baby being placed in our care once he/she is born! We are excited about the possibility of being a positive example in Danielle's life, helping her to break a cycle, and become a good mom! And as many of you know I am VERY excited about having a newborn! We don't know for sure yet that Danielle will be placed with us, but we are praying towards that, we are leaving it in God's hands and praying that it works out for the best for all involved!

Day 3 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

DAY 3 L O V E - "Grant, Lord, that my children may learn to 'live a life of love, through the Spirit who dwells in them"

and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma Ephesians 5:2 (NASB)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Galatians 5:22 (NASB)

As I told you in day 1...I got the idea for this from a friend on facebook who was praying these 31 specific ways for her girls for 31 days, and I wanted to share them here on our blog, for others and for our children and grandchildren, so they know they are being prayed for daily and how they are being prayed for and that they might continue to develop strong Christian morals and bear the fruit of the Spirit! I got a late start in the month, but I intend to do this every month, (not blog about it of course) but I intend to pray for my kids and grandkids, in addition to my prayers for their safety and whatever concerns of that day, I will also pray for a specific character trait, virtue, or fruit of the Spirit to be planted and nurtured in my children each day of the month!

Lord, I pray today for Brian, Nathan, Matthew, and Chase that they may learn to live a life of love, not anything they can do through their own power, but through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within each one of them! As they each go about their day today, I pray that they will show Your love to others! Thank You Lord for Your love for us and may we all learn to live a life of love!

Day 2 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

DAY 2 - GROWTH IN GRACE “I pray that they may ‘grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ''.

but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 (NASB)

Our children are not little anymore, the boys are no longer little boys, they are grown men with wives, and children of their own, and Chase is in high school now! WOW! Where does the time go? Chase had to go to Northgate High last night for Honor Chorus practice, and as I am walking to the Cafeteria with her, it seemed like I should be going in to pick Matthew up from band practice or to see Matthew in a chorus concert! It was surreal that I was there for Chase! Children grow up so fast, they are only little for a little while!

Today, my prayer dear Lord is that as my children have all grown physically and as Chase continues to grow, I pray that they will all grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and that they will give Him the glory for all things. I pray as the grandkids grow that they too will grow in grace and knowledge, not just worldly knowledge, but in the knowledge of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Lord, I ask that you bless my children today with Your grace. I pray for Brian, as he goes to work at Red Lobster, as he is a manager there and he has workers that look to him, I pray that you will be with him today! I pray for Nathan, as he goes to work at his CPA firm, I pray that you will give him the grace and wisdom he needs to do all he needs to do today! I pray for Matthew, as he serves in the US Coast Guard, as he serves his country I pray that You will be with him Lord! I pray for Chase as she goes to school today, I pray that You will give her grace and wisdom as she chooses friends, I pray that You will help her to make right choices in all things today! I pray for Hannah, Billy, Jacob, Kaleb and Kinley as they all go to school today as well help them Lord to make right choices and lead them in all things they do today! I pray also for little Elyn. I pray that you will be with Elyn today as she learns and plays and just bless her in a special way! I pray that you will bless all my kids and grandkids in a special way today! I pray that they will feel Your presence and that they will know that they are being prayed for today! I love You, Lord!

Day 1 of 31 Ways to Pray for my Children

A friend of mine did this on facebook, and I thought it was so special, that first of all she was praying for her girls everyday for 31 days/in 31 ways! I also thought it was special that she made it public, so that her girls knew everyday that their mom was praying for them, and exactly what she was praying for...I pray with Chase not daily anymore (teenagers), but we do pray and she knows I pray for her daily, but I want her and our boys to know that I pray specifically for them everyday, so these blogs will mostly be for my children (and my grandchildren as well)!

I am so privileged to be the mom of a beautiful 14 year old daughter, Chase is my world, and I love her dearly, she has been a joy to us all! I am further privileged to be a step mom to 3 wonderful sons...They aren't little boys anymore, but they will always be "my boys" and to extend our joy even further then Tommy or I ever thought possible we have 6 of the most precious grandchildren! 3 amazing grandsons, and 3 beautiful granddaughters! God has truly blessed our family!

Day 1 of 31 Ways to Pray for our Children - SALVATION "Lord, Let Salvation spring up within my children, that they may obtain the Salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory".

Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, and righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it. Isaiah 45:8 (NASB)

For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. 2 Timothy 2:10 (NASB)

Lord, I am so thankful for my salvation, and I am thankful that all 4 of my children have accepted you as their Lord and Savior and received that gift of salvation as well. I pray that as our grandchildren reach that age of accountability that they too will turn their hearts and lives over to You and they will give their lives in service to You! I am so thankful that our oldest granddaughter Hannah has been saved, and Tommy had the privilege of baptizing her, what a joy that was for him! I pray that as I continue to pray in these specific 31 ways for the next 31 days that You Lord will work in the lives of my kids and grandkids like You never have before and that they will truly be blessed and that in everything You will be Glorified! I love You Lord and I am so thankful for the gift You have given me of being a Mom and a Mimi! Thank You!

Newnan VS East Coweta ~ Newnan Wins!!!

Chase and Mary have become so close they are like sisters! I love watching their relationship grow stronger everyday, it reminds me of the relationship that I have with Mary's mom! My Best friend, my sister...Michelle! We may not be biologically related, but she is my sister in every since of the word! And now our daughters have that same kind of relationship! It's Awesome!

Anyway, when school started in August, Mary was a cheerleader for East Coweta High and Chase was in the Marching Band on the Colorguard for Newnan High (for my NC friends these are the two rivalry schools here in Coweta County), so we thought it would be cute to have rivalry pictures made!
I'm actually alittle behind on my blogging, because it just so happens that school started back today from the holiday break, and Mary transferred over to Newnan High, so they are no longer at rivalry schools!! Yay!! Chase and Mary are thrilled to be going to school together and another fun fact: Chase and Mary are walking the same halls together that Michelle and I walked together almost 30 years ago!!
OH! Newnan won the Newnan/EC game too! :)

More pics...

Here are few better pictures of Jamal:

I think he has the most precious smile and I love it when he smiles!
